Kieran Quinn and the power of political double-think

The new leader of Tameside MBC, Kieran Quinn, is making his mark already, giving an interview to the local press (otherwise known as issuing a press release). He's setting his stall out for his priorities.

Now pause there for a moment. Hands up who thought the end if the Oldham regime would signal some real changes? Did we think that Bypass 2.0 (aka Oldham Way) was only Roy's pet project and obsession? If you did, then look at what's second on Kieran's list:
"His priorities will include cutting the borough’s carbon footprint, pushing through the Mottram bypass..."
And then look at the first - cutting carbon footprints. One would have thought them mutually exclusive, but he wouldn't be the first politician to attempt to hold two contradictory views.

But is it any surprise? Quinn lives in Droylsden, at the address illustrated on Google Street view below (his are the evergreens in the garden). Have a pan around to see what his vision for Longdendale is (hint - the Snipe Retail Park and Ashton Moss are not too far to the East).

A new Mottram bypass, which you've indicated you will be persuing, would force 300,000 extra vehicles each day onto the M67/M60/A57 at junction 24. About 47,000 people live in the Denton/Audenshaw area and are already suffering the high levels of pollution caused by the interchange and the extra vehicles would make the pollution even worse. Don't you think it's time you considered the feelings of these people above the few that live in Tameside along the route that is to be bypassed?

Cllr Kieran Quinn:
Hello and thanks for the first question. Firstly this scheme is no longer being pursued by the Highways agency as has been fully reported. Secondly the figures you quote are wholly inaccurate. The public inquiry showed that the increase by 2015 would be only an extra 5500 per day so approximately 50 time less than your figures. The current plan is for an integrated scheme that looks at all elements to assist here including better public transport as part of the answer

WHAT A BLOODY DISGRACE TO PRINT THIS.

"would force 300,000 extra vehicles each day onto the M67/M60/A57 at junction 24".

My question put through to the press for Quinn to answer was specific, detailed, and accurate,by stating the present 300,000 daily traffic volumes
would be increased into Junction 24 by road schemes being promoted.
The press distorted the question to Quinn which allowed him to comment that I was grossly distorting the situation which he made reference to on the Internet.
With no recourse at the time to correct this manipulated situation,I submitted my comments exposing this quite despicable misrepresentation of what I asked, and my comments were blocked.
My complaint to the Web-Editor Lee Swettenham was ignored, and I now want an apology from the MEN/Advertiser and Quinn who I have also E.Mailed.

These devious bastards try every way to manipulate and distort without recourse to expose reality, and its time the MEN/Advertiser were investigated by the Press Complaints Council, although thats a composition of the media editors itself.

WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS SPOUTED
BY DISTORTING THE QUESTION.
